Journey to You by Jean Cadman Smith

Journey to you... as Steve searched to find out the mystery of his grandparents, had he found love?

Steve:
I couldn’t write an autobiography of my life on the road with rock group Villander, without including a biography of my multi-talented parents. Although their adoptions at birth had slammed the door shut on their parentage, tests matched us to the DNA of an unknown grandfather, and after emailing the manager of his DNA, we arranged to meet at a Starbucks in London. Amanda Quinton Howe turned out to be a tall, stunning blonde with a jaundiced eye for guys like me.

Amanda
I decided that his blue mirrored sunglasses and gold earring; his warm crooked smile and overwhelming sex appeal must have women falling at the feet of Steve Perry, Sir Neville Ralston’s grandson. He may have made my toes curl, but I was not about to fall for this American charmer. Instead, I shared with him, his grandfather’s family tree and said goodbye. That, however, was not the end of us; we would meet again and become friends. Then one day he rescued me and gave me refuge for one night, and for that, I will always be grateful.

Steve:
When I travelled to my grandfather’s ancestral home in Yorkshire, I felt the past in my bones even as Amanda and her family were converting the old house into a hotel. I stayed there, searching my grandfather’s journals for clues to the identity of my grandmother and I was astonished when I realized who she was. It got me thinking somehow my future intertwined with the past when Amanda and I became lovers.

Then I left to go back to the USA. I was in love with Amanda, but look, I had obligations. I was lead singer in a rock group and I’d been away too long. We had a gig to perform, an album to record, and I had a book to write. I was a love and leave ‘em kind of guy, leave ‘em before I get burned one more time…
