The Lass Who Lost a Shoe by Caroline Lee
Max DeVille is ready for a change. He might not be anyone important in his hometown of Everland, Wyoming, but after taking a commission from the Prince family to run their factory in the Highlands of Scotland, he’s feeling something of a prince himself. In fact, the locals are even throwing a ball in his honor! Who would’ve thought a simple cowboy like himself would be going to a ball?

Ember Oliphant sometimes feels like her name should’ve been “drudge.” She spends her days toiling in the clan’s factories, only to come home and work even harder for her stepmother. She’s not meek, but she can’t do anything which would risk her younger stepsisters’ chances at a better life, so she’s willing to do whatever it takes…even if that means accepting yet another chore of showing the new foreman around his domain.

Her bold ways might’ve been a warning flag to another man, but Max has tamed his share of wild fillies, and is confident he can win Ember over…until she disappears. The ball is approaching, and he’s expected to make a future here in Scotland. But how can he, without the woman he’s beginning to suspect has stolen his heart?

It’s going to take a meddling godmother, a clan’s worth of support, some thoroughly impractical footwear, and a lot of narrative causality to straighten out this mess!
