“Take her home. She needs the rest. I’ll stay with the sister.” Those bright blue eyes flicked to him as he stepped forward towards the bed. They were…. spectacular. Deep hypnotic pools but they were dying. He could see that too.
“Spike?”
“She needs help Hawk.”
“You know the cost.”
He continued to stare at the girl in the bed. He couldn’t take his eyes off her.
“She’ll pay it.”

They had been at war for over 100 years and the Cyborg war continued. What had been created, turned on their masters taking over all computer-based technology becoming the creators themselves. The human race was no longer top of the food chain. They were and the fight was on for survival.

Populations were being decimated. Caged in and slaughtered. Small communities raised walls and became their own defensible towns. You were either in or out and chaos ensued. Those that tried to make it on their own were either lucky or dead or so isolated they couldn’t easily be found. Neighbour was pitted against neighbour, brother against brother. When they should have been united against the real enemy, the Killer Cyborgs.

And then that enemy changed. Some of them evolved beyond their programming and started to remember who they’d once been before being made Cyborg and what they’d once believed in. And stopped listening to the programming, questioning why they were there at all.

Why the humans were enemies. They had once been human too.

Sentient Cyborgs emerged and fled. Wanting to bring justice to those that had done this to them. Joining up with the humans fighting to survive was the logical choice. It had started with Marcus, Hawk and his elite quad walking with him into the human encampment. It had been a risk. Until the female child came running up to them and had taken their hands.
“Come,” she told them unafraid unlike the others around her. “I am in need of uncles and you are in need of family.”

It was the beginning of their new life. Moon the child, becoming the family she'd promised and the warrior they helped make her.

Moons devotion to the human race took her to the Free Human Alliance but it was flawed, riddled with traitors who made deals with the Killer Cyborgs, the KC, to survive. They'd taken her and her group hostage, one of the women beaten almost to death. Kate, Hawks mate.

And in a raid on the FHA homeland, the KCs attacked her sister and family. Sam already ill with pneumonia now had two bullets in her and she wasn’t healing, bleeding out. Dying.
She stared at him. No one stared at him like she did. Those damn eyes peeled away his layers. “You’re fucking beautiful.” The slight movement told him he’d surprised her.

“I could help with the pneumonia but you’re not strong enough to take the pain that would bring or the need that will flare in you wanting me to fuck you. That will have to wait. But I can help with the wounds and there’s a chance it will kickstart your natural healing. To do that, I ….will need to touch you skin on skin and there will be a price Sam, there’s always a price, but it will help to heal the wounds. Do you want me to do it?” He watched her face for the slightest of movements. She slowly blinked once. Yes.

She was his now. And he'd make sure she enjoyed it.
