Miss Harriet Cunningham, known as Harry, married her childhood sweetheart, Lord Thomas Prescott. On her wedding day her happiness was destroyed. Major Alexander Prescott, distant cousin and heir to the earldom, offered her what comfort he could but had to return to his duties with Wellington.
