When the Angels Say Amen: A Spiritual Journey through Cherokee Oppression, Betrayal, Survival and Love by Vera Lima
I am an author who writes dreams.
I started dreaming about the Indigenous Native Americans – specifically the Cherokee Tribe, who lived mostly in Georgia.
I had heard of them, but had never been to North America and had no knowledge of them or had ever studied them. The dreams revealed individuals and a story with a backdrop set in the violent and oppressive times of some 200 years ago. Their ‘spirituality’ and closeness to the land became very vivid. The new European settlers saw them as ‘savages’, and they were very far from that, and as the first ‘conservationists’, only took what they needed. The new settlers saw them as a hindrance to their claims on the land and wanted their banishment and elimination. American Governments shamefully conspired to renege on negotiated Treaties concerning land and territories.
These dreams were ’channeled’ to me in quite lengthy ‘episodes’ – which could last a couple of hours. I was able to remember and document all that I had seen and heard – as if I had been an observer – like a ‘fly on the wall’. This story was also ‘revealed’ to me over a number of months – and eventually took over twelve months to complete. I could go for many weeks without any ‘episodes’ being revealed, so I had to be very patient.
The book reveals the importance of ‘The Great Spirit’ and ‘Mother Earth’ to these people and how their spirituality influenced their lives. Despite the many Treaties, which were signed with these Native Americans they were constantly humiliated and under attack - eventually being forcibly removed from their land by the US Army. Many thousands died during their ‘March of Tears‘ to Oklahoma during a very severe winter with many suffering from illnesses previously unknown to them. This book is so full of mixed emotions.
