The Pumper: A Good Man's Dilemma by F.D. Helms, Kathy Davis
It had been a good day in the Texas Panhandle oilfield for Ben and the other pumpers. Ben decided to sit on the picnic table with Max, the neighbor's dog, and drink a cold beer. The quiet evening was interrupted by the people moving into the old Anderson place next to his property. He told himself it was no big deal, but his instincts told him otherwise.

Soon he would find out his instincts were right. Ben is the very self-reliant type. Co-workers, neighbors and friends all depend on his ability to take care of things. He is just the way. His caring nature and character are soon to be tested as he crosses paths with his drug-dealing neighbor, and an escaped convict.

Caught in the middle of this is Maggy, an innocent young girl in a bad home and a terrible situation. Her deceased mother had promised her that if she was ever scared, she would send an angel to protect her. Maggy needs an angel, and her mother knew just who to send.
