Gomez the God by Mark D. Loweree
Alex is still a boy when his father dies. On the day of the funeral, he meets an old man named G#243;mez, who he finds living in a house that everyone thought was vacant. pG#243;mez teaches Alex that no self-respecting Mexican should serve bottled salsa. He also plays classical music at 6 in the morning and asks Alex's opinion on things - something that he isn't used to giving. pAlex's mother is skeptical of this old man, and his older brother, Eddie, is too busy cursing their deceased father to pay him too much notice. But Alex finds in him a mentor and friend. From the day they begin planting a salsa garden together, the two are quick friends. pAside from Alex, there is another member of his family that has some interest in G#243;mez. His Aunt Carmen, who has a reputation of driving the neighborhood men wild with her good looks, finds the old man mysterious and interesting.pExperience the rich flavors of a complex family living in El Sereno, a small, mostly Hispanic suburb of Los Angeles, and join Alex as he discovers what life is all about after meeting G#243;mez the God.
