Speakeasy by S.A. Marano
Amidst a cultural mixology of an Economic Boom, Prohibition, The Jazz Age, post-war homecoming, and “new women” feminism – there was a thirst for anew. A society brewing in profound social changes, bootlegging, Gangsters and Flapper girls all infusing on the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 1925. Delia Hoffman, is a cleaning lady by day and an exuberant Flapper girl by night. Rocco Nunzio, is a ruthless charismatic Gangster. Bobby Wilkes, is a young Marine officer stationed at the U.S. Marine barracks in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. They all know the bitters of life, and the effervescence of hope. Delia is running from a traumatic past, Rocco is gunning for the bigtime in the Mob, and Bobby is continuing his family’s legacy in the Marines. When the sun goes down they escape the slums into a world of Speakeasies. In this underworld of juice joints, their paths intermingle into relationships of deep friendship, love affairs, and an ultimate betrayal.
