The Gypsy and the Cowboy by Stella Barnes
What happens when a young gypsy dancer falls head over heels for a man who is considered taboo?

While traveling by gypsy caravan through the state of Wyoming, the fiery Constantina Petrescu meets and falls in love with Virgil Walker, the rancher with whom her family is conducting business. Virgil is unable to resist the alluring young belly dancer, and when his drunken cowhand, Cleatus Jones, makes unwanted advances toward her, Virgil immediately comes to her defense.

A Romanian gypsy, it is considered taboo for Constantina to keep company with an outsider. Plus, she is already betrothed to the musician, Sergei! But it is Virgil who sets Constantina’s heart aflame, and against her family’s wishes, they continue their clandestine love affair amidst a backdrop of racial prejudice and parental disapproval.

But when a mysterious horse thief makes off with everyone’s livestock, the townspeople begin pointing fingers at Constantina and her family. Determined to find the culprit, the two lovers scour the countryside in search of answers. Will they track down the thief, or will Constantina and her family be run out of town, or worse, strung up? Will she and Virgil publicly declare their love despite mounting obstacles? Through it all, their turbulent love affair remains the focal point of this Old Western adventure – the first in a series of Sweetheart Westerns!
