Annalisa Booker and Oliver Winters are best friends—or, well, they are three months out of the year. Their summers are spent together on the cape both of their families visit every year, but their friendship is one of sneaking around the island and sneaking each other notes so Annalisa's disapproving parents don't know of its existence. But despite the secrecy, one thing is certain: being with each other is the best part of their year. And even if it's just three months at a time, it's enough for Annalisa and Oliver to grow closer as they grow up.
