Adaline's Rose by Bess McBride
Adaline Scott loves her cousin, Pam, who loves dressing up for reenactment balls. Addie takes a break from her mental health practice and jokester boyfriend, Jason, in Oregon to visit her cousin in New Hampshire just in time for Pam to dress her up in Regency costume and drag her to a ball.

After one wild Scottish reel in which Addie has no idea what she was doing, she pops out to the venue garden to cool off. The scent of roses entices her, and she bends to sniff a rose but accidentally plucks it off the bush.

Christopher Tatum, visiting his old Eton chum, Viscount Robert Ludsworth, enjoys riding about the estate. His horse enjoys eating the white Alba roses on the property, the favorite of Lady Cassandra Ludsworth. On one such outing, Christopher’s horse eats all but a few of the roses, and Christopher picks one to take back to his hostess as a peace offering with the promise that his horse will not eat another of her white roses.

Addie awakens to find herself no longer in a venue garden at night but at the base of some rosebushes near a river in broad daylight. An impressive mansion overlooks the river, and she heads there for help.

Cassandra, who knew Sarah Jenkins Story, recognizes that Addie is special. Sarah Jenkins married Richard Story, and they vanished. When Addie confesses she must have traveled through time, Cassandra realizes what probably happened to Sarah and Richard. She sets herself out as Addie’s protector.

Hindering her efforts is their guest, Christopher, who thinks Addie is preying on the trusting family. Addie and Christopher do not trust each other, at least not until they fall in love.

But Addie has to go home. She can’t vanish from everyone who loves her. She just doesn’t know what the catalyst was that brought her through time. Cassandra feels sure that catalyst is Christopher.
