What he finds is a gorgeous, sweet, funny and patient man... with a penchant for tricks and manipulation... but in a good way. Of course, he falls for the sexy older man. The thing is, Haven Hills is a small town, and he knows all too well how hard a small town can kick you when you’re down. Could he ever feel comfortable coming out to Byrum? To the town? Byrum Rodgers knows there is joy to be seen under the dark cloud of gloom that weighs Jefferson down when they first meet, and he makes it his mission to bring it to the surface. He knows it’s a bad idea to bring someone into his home that he is so attracted to and completely inappropriate for, but he can’t just leave the guy hanging in the wind. Their friendship comes easily, and Byrum loves that Jefferson seems to be trusting him more and more with each day that passes, and he’s not surprised at all to find himself in love with the young man. Acting on their attraction is scary because they both value what they have already, but spending so much time together... something’s got to give. less

Or the Highway (Haven Hills #2)
J.D. Light
Rated: 4.33 of 5 starsTrying to make it through one day at a time is all Justice has known for the last six years. To say that he had an interesting past is putting whipped cream on top of dog crap. He's done what he's had to to survive, but he's well aware of the stigma that comes with some of those things. Nobody had the ability to keep a straight face when you told them you were a prostitute for five years. After a few bad experiences in a row with Johns, he promised himself he'd never go back to that again... moreTrying to make it through one day at a time is all Justice has known for the last six years. To say that he had an interesting past is putting whipped cream on top of dog crap. He's done what he's had to to survive, but he's well aware of the stigma that comes with some of those things. Nobody had the ability to keep a straight face when you told them you were a prostitute for five years. After a few bad experiences in a row with Johns, he promised himself he'd never go back to that again. It's time to get his life in order. Starting with getting a normal job in a new town where nobody recognizes him and getting his GED. There's no time in his life for crushing on his gorgeous, older boss with the kind, patient heart and the no-nonsense attitude, and he definitely can't, in good conscience, go into a relationship with somebody without telling them about his past. Luther would never want him if he knew. Luther takes one look at the gorgeous younger man who shows up looking for a job and slips almost immediately into protective mode. Justice might have a lot of secrets, but he recognizes a soul in need of compassion and love in those pretty brown eyes, because Justice isn't the only one with a past. Though he enjoys the innocent flirting from the sassy waiter, he's not sure he's got what it takes to be in a relationship, but life has a way of throwing two souls together who have the ability to heal each other. Or the Highway is Book two in the Haven Hills series. It can be read as a standalone, but you will better understand the background characters if you read the series in order. Lowish angst and plenty of humor. less

Rated: 4.17 of 5 starsHenley is intimidated by the gorgeous older man who comes into the feed store where he works with his friends. From all accounts Cutter is a good, hard working, nice man, and Henley believes every word. He'd rather just hide every time he comes in... moreHenley is intimidated by the gorgeous older man who comes into the feed store where he works with his friends. Harder They Fall (Haven Hills #4)
J.D. Light
Rated: 4.33 of 5 starsWhen his dad makes it obvious he isn't going to kick the good-for-nothing thief and liar of a son and Branson's brother to the curb, Branson decides he can't sit and watch his father shower undeserved praise on a man who will undoubtedly just steal from him again and leave him swinging in the breeze. So, he decides to leave himself and ends up following his friend Jefferson to the town of Haven Hills… where he meets Keaton and proceeds to lose his mind. Keaton is straight… he thinks... moreWhen his dad makes it obvious he isn't going to kick the good-for-nothing thief and liar of a son and Branson's brother to the curb, Branson decides he can't sit and watch his father shower undeserved praise on a man who will undoubtedly just steal from him again and leave him swinging in the breeze. So, he decides to leave himself and ends up following his friend Jefferson to the town of Haven Hills… where he meets Keaton and proceeds to lose his mind. Keaton is straight… he thinks. That's default mode, right? What everyone just assumes they're set at until they find out that they're not? So, the fact that he likes the attention he gets because he's attractive more than the actual people giving the attention doesn't mean anything… except that he might be a bit of an ass. It's okay, he's a good ass… with a good ass. It also doesn't mean anything that he never seems to be attracted to anyone. But… lately, he's started to look at his friend a little differently. When he first met Branson, of course he noticed the guy was attractive, but it was more in a jealous, he-better-not-steal-my-attention way. Then something changes. It's like the more he knows Branson, the more he notices how incredibly hot the man is. Like really, really hot. So, what does that make him? And does it even matter? To Branson, Keaton is an enticing mystery wrapped up in the best kind of crazy and sealed shut with an adorable idiot lock. He knows Keaton is straight, even if the guy is a little more open about some things than he was aware of… and it probably would have been better if he didn't know, but some things can't be unsaid… and others can't be unseen. He was doing okay at keeping the ridiculous crush he had on the man under control, but then Keaton becomes his roommate and it's almost impossible to ignore the chemistry. As Keaton reveals more and more about himself, Branson realizes the man might not be as straight as he thought, but as much as he would love to explore this thing with his best friend, he's not sure he can survive the oh-wait-I-really-am-straight waiting for him at the end. Harder They Fall is book Four in the Haven Hills series. It is an MM romance and not suitable for anyone who doesn't enjoy men getting dirty with one another and falling in love... or anyone under the age of eighteen. This is Branson and Keaton's story. We're going for fluffy, sweet and funny here people, so don't bust my balls if it doesn't make you sob. Though knowing the side characters would make this one more fun to read, it is completely unnecessary to read the other two books first. less
