Faylene's Biggest Catch by Betty Castleberry
Faylene McFarland is a fifty something, single woman who owns the only car wash in the small west Texas town of High Plains. Her mother's best friend Iris made a deathbed promise to help find Faylene a husband, and she takes her vow very seriously. Faylene barely has time for romance because she spends a lot of time squelching ridiculous rumors generated by the High Plains grapevine. She has an assortment of quirky friends including Bart, who owns a discount casket store, fashion and figure conscious Molly June, and her next door neighbor, cantankerous Mr. Fenton. As a favor to Iris, Faylene joins her dying offbeat ladies' club and is elected head of the recruitment committee. With the help of some of the town's ladies, the club is off and running again. High Plains biggest and most exciting event, The Catfish Festival, becomes even more exciting when handsome Mike Chapman comes to town. He and Faylene enter The Biggest Catch Contest as a team. Iris is thrilled. Come along with Faylene to see if she can reel in her biggest catch yet.
Note from the author: I hope you enjoy reading about the fictional town of High Plains. It’s small town living at its finest, and at times, at its craziest. Grab your favorite beverage and read along with me. Even better, meet me at Tooties.
