Anna is a slave girl. Although she is a slave, she is lucky to be with a family that has always treated her well, in fact she is childhood friends with the two children of the family and their friend, Joshua, another slave-owner’s child. She has always had feelings for Joshua but had to keep her dangerous love for him hidden. As they grow up, they drift apart, until one day fate brings them back together and Joshua confesses that he too loves Anna. They start sneaking around, meeting in secret to steal a few kisses here and there, as their love for one another grows. Then, one day Anna’s father reveals that he has found a suitable husband for her. He is a slave as well and she would be able to continue serving her masters while married to him. She tells Joshua, who becomes angry, swearing that no one shall have her but him, and he works hard to find a way for them to be together. The events that follow alter the lives of the whole family.
