Changing Winds by Nelli Mason
Oklahoma January, 1875

Annabelle married far too young, and to the wrong man. She found herself struggling day to day to keep her small family fed, and Sam, her husband was of no help. Every day she worked long hours at a Café in town, only to return home to a drunken, abusive husband.
It was the life she had to learn to accept though. Not only had she already birthed his child, but she was expecting another. It was too late for her to change her mind now.
Then one cold day in January, Annabelle receives news that her Ma is ill, and not doing so well. She is determined to make it back home to Tulsa, regardless of the weather or how her husband feels about it.
Sam refuses to allow her to leave, therefore, Annabelle sneaks out on her own aware she would be returning to an angry husband once she knew all was well with her ma.
Her journey home doesn’t go as planned though, and with the struggles and folks Annabelle meets along the way, something changes inside of her.
Annabelle begins to see things differently and she decides she wants more for her daughter and herself. They both deserve a better chance at life, and a chance to be happy.
After deciding not to return to her husband, Sam surprises her by showing up to drag her back to Dumor against her will. Annabelle attempts to get away from him, but as his wife, most believe Sam has the right to treat her as he wants and her efforts fail. Sam doesn’t realize though that Annabelle will do whatever she has to to make sure he never hurts her again.
