“My mother feels that I am being too hard on you,” Aaron said as Rowena dropped her washing and rose slowly to her feet. The tone of his voice made her hopeful that he was going to say something that was not unkind. “But I am still of the opinion that you should not have deceived me. However, you must know that I have been in touch with someone else…” Aaron stopped and cleared his throat, and Rowena felt her spirits plummet. “Another prospective wife…” Aaron cleared his throat again and said, “And she will be arriving in a few days to stay here. I have only just received a letter to that effect.”

“I see,” Rowena said, raising her eyes and looking directly into Aaron’s face. He turned away, but Rowena’s gaze never faltered. “So you would like me to be on my way, is that it?” she said.

Aaron Ray, thirty-eight years old and a prominent man fighting for widow and suffragist rights in Texas, has made the decision to marry a widow. Although mostly to show his support for his own cause, he hopes that someday love will follow the decision. When pretty Rowena arrives with more than he’d bargained for, Aaron realizes that he may have made a huge mistake.

Immediately trying to rectify his mistake, Aaron makes a string of decisions that will change his life forever, along with the lives of many of his closest friends and family members. He can only hope that he is given a chance to correct his error, especially when his mother comes against his choices. However, it might be too late to change his circumstances, and when another man falls in love with the pretty widow, he is forced to abandon all his plans for happiness.
