Can Emma ever forgive God for the death of her parents?
Emma, known as Sarah to anyone who doesn’t realize that she’s in the witness protection program, longs for home. Home will never be the same though, because her parents are dead and the man who committed the crime is awaiting her testimony at trial. Until he’s put away for good, she must stay on the run, hidden from the goons he’s hired to eliminate her testimony.
When her most recent location is compromised, she decides to go and stay with a new friend, someone who has no idea about who she is or why she needs to hide. Emma has a place to stay now, a safe place, but never intends for the unthinkable to happen: she falls in love with a man she can never have. She must decide whether she’s willing to risk his death—and the deaths of everyone she loves—by staying in Faith’s Creek now.
As if by reflex, Emma ducked as the silent whistle of the bullet whizzed past the side of her head and connected with the vase on the mantle behind her, shattering it into a million pieces. She heard it when he pulled the trigger once more, but nothing happened. She looked up to see him reaching into the pocket of his trench coat as he approached her, his long greasy black mane sweeping from side to side.
Adrenaline kicked in and Emma found herself making a mad dash for the front door. Alas, one of her heels got hitched by the rug and she fell to the ground. Before she could pick herself up, her head snapped backwards with the force that the man used to yank her hair.
“This is your lucky day, sweetheart. You get to be with your folks,” the man said as he stared down at her upturned face.
Adam, handsome and wholesome, understands what it’s like to lose a loved one. Having lost his father only a year before, the Amish young man can empathize with Emma’s loss, although he knows her as Sarah. All too soon he finds himself longing for more than a simple, platonic friendship with the pretty newcomer, but she seems hesitant.
They begin to spend more time together, and Adam loses his heart completely to the beautiful young woman with so many secrets. In order to have a life together, he must make some decisions, such as whether he’s willing to overlook her hesitancy when it comes to revealing her past. After all, she may not be trustworthy, and could lead him into more danger than he realizes…
Does Emma finally have a chance for peace and happiness in the small Amish community she’s come to see as home?
Will Adam find a way to protect Emma from the ghosts haunting her every step—or will she walk away from him and their love?
