Enchanted: A Hood Love in New Orleans by Natisha Raynor
At the age of nine, Adisa learns that she is different from others. While the revelation is traumatic for her, it seems to please her grandmother, who then begins to teach Adisa how to utilize her gifts. Once Adisa enters adulthood, her main focus is trying to make her grandmother happy, until she meets Biz and realizes that she deserves to be happy too. Adisa eases into normalcy, but soon, a devastating event takes place that changes her, and reveals newfound enemies. It breaks Adisa's heart to learn that she and Biz may never be because of the actions of his family.

Brichelle and Adisa are best friends because they share a common secret. They aren't like others. The day that Brichelle learned of her gift, was the day that her father walked out of her life. Because of that, she fears that no man will ever truly love her or accept her. Brichelle adopts the wild and free attitude, conditioning herself to just have fun with men and then leave before she gets too attached. That doesn't seem to be so easy for Brichelle to do with Alex, and she soon begins to wonder why her powers are called gifts when she sees them as nothing more than curses.
