The Final Resting Place of Billy Bottle: Manitou Series Book 3 by James H. Goodwin
Finding a homeless Vietnam veteran dead in his temporary shelter was unusual enough for this small northern Michigan town, but to find he was a highly decorated hero impacted the young deputy working on the case. Many of the characters in the first two books of this series are present in the third book. The central characters are new to the series and it is entertaining to watch their introduction to Manitou.
The mystery started when a young women deputy became obsessed with learning the identity of the homeless man. Finding two war time medals in his belongings only increased her desire to locate a relative. The young deputy found more than she bargained for both in terms of danger and romance. The search put her in life in jeopardy and young family threatened with bodily harm. She is helped by a loving group of family members and friends but more importantly she meets a new man.
The fictitious town of Manitou is the setting for this story. Located on the shore of Lake Michigan, Manitou looks to be an idyllic place, but as books 1 and 2 in the Manitou series show things aren't always perfect in small towns. The story deals with plethora of human emotions ranging from divorce to learning the man you thought was your father really wasn't. In the end the support provided by some of the people of Manitou saves the day.
