Widower Frederick Ropp has lost his guiding light. Since the unexpected death of his wife Frederick has avoided attachments as much as possible wandering from place to place. Upon arriving in Faith’s Creek Frederick is embraced by the people and encouraged to start anew but he’s not certain he’s ready.

Linda Bontrager is an indomitable young woman determined to keep her Grandfather’s carpentry business afloat after he suffers a stroke. While Linda is doing her best, she is exhausted but can not see a way out of the problem. The last thing she wants is a husband. When the Bishop suggests she takes on a newcomer she suspects that this is a way to push her to marriage and she will not have it.
