Young Emma Eldridge is introduced to the harsh existence of living under British rule when she becomes the sole witness to the murders of her beloved parents at the hand of one of their leaders. With no other living relatives left in the world, she is taken in by her ‘spinster’ aunt, Lucile Wolfe of New York, who is anything but an innocent little old lady.

Thirteen years later, in the year 1779, America is in the midst of a brutal battle for independence from England, and New York is currently controlled by the British army. Emma and her Aunt Lucy are now not only the most desired socialites in town but the biggest source of information for the opposing army regarding troop movements within the city. Their normally easy endeavors become a bit more complicated with the arrival of the keen and charismatic Major John André, the newly appointed British Head of Intelligence. Emma must redouble her efforts to protect the secrets they keep while continuing to further the Patriot cause. Her focus shifts dramatically, however, when she discovers Major André in the possession of a letter signed by a man she vowed to kill, and she will risk anything to exact her revenge — even if it costs her everything.
