Darcy's Heritage: A Pride and Prejudice Variation
M. A. Sandiford
Double Trouble …
Dispirited by Elizabeth’s rejection, Darcy receives a further shock in the form of an express from his solicitor. Two men from India have arrived in London. One is a legal adviser; the other claims to be Darcy’s step-brother. They bring documents testifying that Darcy’s father, while resident in Calcutta, married a woman whom he later deserted. If their allegations are true, Darcy is illegitimate, and his step-brother is the rightful heir to Pemberley.
It seems bizarre, impossible. But the solicitor cannot refute the evidence, and Darcy fears all is lost: not just the woman he loves, but the estate, his reputation, everything. Months pass as he struggles for a way out.
Then, unexpectedly, Elizabeth re-enters his life …
