There, she meets Connor Ashton, a devout Christian who helps to protect her in a world that she doesn’t understand.

Connor brings her home, and it’s his influence that helps give Millie the strength and courage to face her trials. He drops by occasionally to check up on her and is soon hired by Millie's father to help with the harvest.

Although she has never had an interest in marrying, she finds herself falling for Connor. But he is English and she is Amish. Besides, even if he were Amish, her focus now must solely be on caring for her mother.
